A Year On WordPress & My Blog in 2019
Happy Monday! Today I am sharing a year on WordPress & my blog in 2019. It’s officially been a year since I moved from Blogger to WordPress and I did say I would do a follow up post about how I’m liking it. I was supposed to do it a few months later but I never got around to it. You can read the post where I launched it here. Since it’s been exactly a year yesterday when I launched my blog on WordPress I thought I would share my thoughts, why I moved it and where I’m taking my blog in 2019. SO get ready for a long rambly post about a year on WordPress & my blog in 2019!
Making the Switch
I had been debating the switch for quite some time. I think maybe two years or so but I never thought I would fully commit to it. Well in the end of February 2018, I did it. I knew what I wanted and went for it. Once I decided I knew I would not do it by myself because I would screw it up. So I did more research and looked at the different offers to switch it over for me. I settled on Pipdig and I couldn’t be happier. He did it so fast and before I knew it my blog was up and running. I got a free theme with it and I was so excited to start playing around with it. I bought my own hosting plan and even just renewed it. I had my own domain long before I switched but that was taken care of when I moved over. I literally had to do nothing but actually write and take pictures for the blog.
My site did go down in December as my domain didn’t auto renew and I was away in New York so it was down for 2 weeks and I didn’t have my laptop with me to wort it out but I did email them and they kindly got back to me and said it was the domains fault for going down. Pipdig has great customer service and they are super quick to get back to you if you need it. So if you are thinking of switching over then here is your push. I did it and don’t regret it. Also let Pipdig do it for you as you just pay for it and they do the rest. It’s super quick and you’ll be up and running in no time!

My Thoughts On WordPress
What do I think about blogging on WordPress? Well to be honest at first I hated it. I was on Blogger for over 6 years and got so use to the easy format and the controls. I liked it and it was the perfect site to start out with. I did outgrow it and wanted to expand my site and I knew WordPress would do that for me. Some of the controls are the same so I did get used to it after a month or so. I missed Blogger a little but over time I just got so used to the formatting that I didn’t notice anymore. Now a year later I don’t remeber how to use Blogger or what it looks like. I think you brain just adapts to it. I love that WordPress has so many more options, designs and the plug ins! The plus ins are amazing and so far I’ve been experimenting and trying so many out. I had a pretty snowflake plus in over the winter and Christmas which was so fun. There are so many to help you blog and that was the thing that really convinced me that I needed to move over to WordPress. I’ve only been using it a year now so I’m still not an expert and have so many things to learn and try but for now it’s been good to me and I’m really enjoying/liking being on WordPress!
Tools I Blog With
I thought I would quickly share my little set up where I’ve been blogging and a few tools I use. I did do an on the go version here which it’s pretty much just the same thing but this time when I’m at home. If you want to see how I take my pictures or the equipment I use then I have that on the list to do. I’ve been getting so many blog ideas and can’t wait to create them after getting my mojo back and getting out of my writer’s block slump.
My Blog Design
Have you seen my new blog design? I originally had the Maryline theme when I switched over and I loved it so much but the first of this year I wanted to start fresh with a new design after my blog went down and to start the new year with a new look. I now have the Etoile theme and it is just what I had in mind. It took me a few weeks to decide if I wanted a pre-made theme or go all out and do a custom theme but my budget wasn’t quite there yet. Did you know I actually customized everything myself? I stumbled upon a website that gave tutorials and all of a sudden I started playing with the design and made it work. Now it’s exactly what I want and is perfect for me. I had Pipdig install my theme and do a few tweaks here and there in the beginning but once I was comfortable I got into the code and started doing my own thing. I spent one whole Sunday evening creating the design you see now and I am so happy with it and was so happy when I was able to do it by myself. Please let me know your thoughts and if it’s easy to use and how you are liking my blog design.

Blogging in 2019
Now for the future of fashionxfairytale! Well I had a break in February as I was having a tough time with blogging. I do that every so often which I get but it really got me down. I don’t know how I got over my slump but I did and I’m so happy and content with my blog again and creating content. I do have a few goals for my blog here and I do want to expand and talk more about where I see my blog going. I really want to expand my audience and see it grow even more. I want to stick to blogging especially after Instagram went down. I love blogging and I love Instagram but I grew my blog and have been since 2011 so I want to keep going with it and just evolving my content. I still want to do my fashion posts and share my outfit of the days and styling post as I’m so passionate about those. I still want to do more body positive and being confident kind of posts too as they make me so happy. I think I’m going to start sharing more about living in LA and my struggles and what happens to me so a bit more lifestyle content. I have so many plans and I just want to explore those this year. So I’m putting it out there and I want to be more positive and keep growing. I can see myself blogging for years to come and may it be a hobby or my job I don’t care as long as I share it. I actually wrote what blogging has taught me so you can read that here.
That was a year on WordPress & my blog in 2019! I’m hoping you enjoyed this blog post and got a bit of inspiration and maybe courage to switch if you have been thinking about it. I needed a push to finally do it and it is the best decision I made for my blog. I love my little home on the internet and so proud of it so I had to write about it. Please let me know your thoughts and if you made the switch yourself. So that was a year on WordPress & my blog in 2019 and what’s to come!
I’ve dealt with WordPress a while ago when I was taking a course on web marketing and I love how customizable it is. I think blogger is definitely more user-friendly but I think it’s all a matter of learning how to do things on WordPress. I honestly think I’m gonna stick to blogger because I feel like WordPress can give off a “website” vibe and not so much “blog” if you know what I mean but maybe one day I’ll switch if I ever feel like it’s the best for me and my audience. And I love the theme, it’s very organized and clean but still very you and feminine.
Loved this update 🙂 How fun!! I love WordPress and your Sony camera
Very inspiring story! I wish you the best of luck in this new year!
I love your brand and web design! It is beautiful! WordPress is all I’ve ever known and I love it!
Wow you’ve been blogging for so long, that’s so impressive! So happy you were able to get your site back up! Speaking of domain renewals, I just renewed mine today! Glad to hear you are enjoying WP. I too blog with WP & at first it was extremely intimidating because I had zero experience, but I really do love it!

I like the design. I am hoping to make the migration from wordpress.com to .org later this year. I am intimidated by the amount of work that needs to be done.
I started with WordPress, so it’s the only thing I’ve ever known, but it’s so interesting to read a comparison. I still feel like I have so much to learn!
You have the camera I want! You’ve done a wonderful joh in the last year! Here’s to many more to come 🙂
