Blogging Taught Me Valuable Lessons
Happy Friday! Today’s blog post topic is quite an exciting one for me to write and has been in the making for quite some time. If you didn’t know fashionxfairytale is turning 7 this year. I repeat 7 whole years of me blogging on this site! I thought today I would let you in on a few things that blogging has taught me these past 7 years. I wanted to be honest and let you in on another side of blogging that bloggers don’t normally show. I wanted to let you in on a few ways that blogging has affected me physically, mentally and overall what it’s done to me as a person!
Affects Your Mental Health
Blogging has affected my mental health in a positive but also negative way. Let me focus on the negative first to get it out of the way. Putting myself out there has been very difficult for me. I’m a super shy person and very sensitive. I get affected by little things and it can ruin my mood in a split second. So putting myself out there online was a huge thing for me. I know what I was getting into and I kind of prepared for it but it still affected me. Hate comments are common online and everyone has their own opinion and I get that. When I’m not having a good day and I read a not so nice comment on one of my social medias it does take a toll on me. At first I got upset and me being so sensitive it really got to me. Being sensitive and getting troll comments don’t do very good for my mental health. Now I kind of accept it and persuade myself that they clicked on my stuff and made an effort to comment something bad and I get their view. I try to laugh it off and convince myself that I now made it since I get those kinds of comments. Of course some days it affects me more than others and I’m not too happy about it. Another one is it will make you more self aware of all your flaws from editing pictures of yourself and seeing all the angles of your body. I get when they say it gets tiring of seeing yourself on the screen for so many hours a week. Blogging has taught me that it really affects your mental health for the worse and for the better. It makes you self-conscious and really judgey about yourself but at the same time it raises your confidence too which leads me to my next point.
Grows Your Confidence
I’ve gained a substantial amount of confidence from blogging especially fashion blogging over the years. It’s insane seeing me go from a shy girl who had a common fashion sense to a confident and expressive “somewhat” stylish woman. I am more open now and have done so many out there body confident posts which I never thought I would. I said before that blogging has grown my body confidence but it also helped me do more stuff I never thought I would do. If I didn’t blog than I don’t think I would have done any of the things I have been doing. So blogging taught me that a little confidence can grow into so much more confidence and you believe in yourself more.
Be My Own Boss
I’m my own boss. I run fashionxfairytale myself. I have some help from my cousin or a few family members to shoot pictures for me but other than that I’m my own boss. It actually feels so cool and though very stressful at times I am in charge. I handle mostly everything and it’s taught me that I can run something and be successful at it. I make my own hours and boss myself around when I don’t get work done. I feel like such a girl boss and at first I didn’t like the term but I’ve embraced it. Blogging taught me that I can be the best boss if I put my mind to it and I have.
How to Run My Business & Keep Track of My Finances
This is a pretty big one for me. Ever since I turned my blog into my own brand and business I learned how to run it all on my own and try to keep up with all the accounting stuff that comes with it. I don’t have a business degree or even learn how to manage any of that stuff at school but I learned how to do it myself. I learned the ups and downs and how to be my own accountant even though I’m terrible in math. Don’t get me started on the financial side. It has been a learning process but it doesn’t have to be and you can get help like from https://agorafinancial.com/
Develop My Creative Skills
Over the years blogging has developed my creative skills. Everyday I explore my creativity and do so many fun things I love doing. I love writing, photography, styling and so much more that blogging has involved and I get to create whatever I please. It’s helped me do what I love and I love every minute planning to executing whatever is in my head and seeing it become a reality. Blogging has taught me more creative skills and to hone in on them.
Blogging is going to teach me a lot more coming up. Do you know why? Well, I’ll tell you now. Yesterday I bought my own hosting plan and I’m switching from Blogger to WordPress. It’s been on my mind and I finally took the jump and I’m doing it. I’m not going to tell you all the details now of course but I am so excited for the huge change and learning even more about it. It’s going to teach me so much more things and maybe in a few years I will do this blog post again and see what has changed.
So that was a few things blogging has taught me over the 7 years I’ve been writing this blog. It’s been such a fun journey and so interesting to share with you. I’m sure there are so many other things that blogging has taught me and will teach me in the future but for now these are my 5 reasons that blogging has taught me. I’m so exctied for the next chapter and over the moon happy that fashionxfairytale will be self hosted or like I call it “have it’s own home” because essential that’s what it’s like right. I can’t wait to share with you all the new things and new content coming up this year. So stay tuned for that! Let me know one thing you learned from blogging or if you don’t blog one thing you learned from a blogger. I’m curious as everyone has different experiences.

What has blogging taught you?

Blogging has made it possible for me to come out of my shell. As an introvert, it’s hard sometimes to put yourself out there. Thanks for the post. I agree with all of these!
Thanks so much Kate! Glad you liked it and glad to hear it bringing you out of your shell. It sure did help me do that.

Blogging has taught me that I can be an entrepreneur, which I never thought possible. I also realized how much I love blogging, and can’t see myself doing anything else.
Thanks Willow! I so agree and it is such a learning process but there’s nothing I’d rather be doing either.

I moved from Blogger to WordPress too. I wish I would have done it earlier.
Thanks so much! I’m learning everything but so far I’m liking it. I can see why it’s a big thing.

First of all, I love your skirt and bag! Secondly, The few years I’ve been blogging I haven’t encountered too many trolls, but I’m a firm believer that if someone took the time to make a negative comment on a post that means they took the time to read it and it was another page view! I haven’t invested a ton of money in my blog, but I totally agree it helps you learn to manage a business as you try to make it a sustainable source of income!
Thanks Roxy! I so agree and love your comment.
