Tools I Use To Blog On The Go
Happy Monday! What better way to start the week than showing you a bit of how I blog on the go. So last weekend I went out to run errands and I took my laptop to Starbucks and spent some time there as I needed to work on this week’s content and scheduling. It actually sparked this blog post and I planned it on a whim which turns out to be the best kind of blog post. Here is what I use to blog with as well as what I take with me when I blog on the go!
Since I work from home, I’m mostly at home unless I go out to either shoot outfits and other content. Also I live with family so I get distracted a lot and that causes me to loose my concentration easily. That’s why I stay up late and get all my blog work or editing done during late nights and early morning. I have my own schedule and mostly I stick to it.
In November I had a deadline but I also needed to head out that day for appointment and I was stressed on what to do until I realized I could just head to a coffee shop for an hour and finish the blog post while I waited for my errands to get done. I felt so happy being out and got a lot done in the meantime. I always see bloggers go to their local coffee shop and work from there and it looks so cool. That made me think that I could do too.
The Essential Tools For Blogging On The Go
Dell Inspiron Laptop
This is what I blog on at the moment. I got it for my birthday last year and it was quite an investment but totally worth it. I needed an upgrade and since it is the most essential tool to blog with I had to focus on something I can use for that. Unfortunately I don’t have a MacBook like a lot of bloggers. I was thinking about it but I got this one. Maybe my next laptop purchase I would opt for one as I do own an iPhone and iPad. However at the moment I’m so used to Windows and that operating system for a computer that I just stuck with what I knew and worked with since I was a kid. It does the job and I am quite a fan of the gold exterior making it extremely aesthetically pleasing so that’s good too.
Sony A5000 and Nikon D5500
I shoot my pictures with the Nikon and what I used to shoot these photos. I use the Sony for videos and it’s what I vlog on. They are my two main cameras and what I use to shoot on so if you wondered about what cameras I use then you now know. I’m planning a separate and dedicated post on camera equipment and how I edit my photos so let me know if that interests you.
Portable Hard Drive
I recently got this and I can tell you it’s a lifesaver. My laptop filled up from all the footage I filmed from vlogging everyday and taking so many pictures for Blogmas and with all the travel photos plus other blog content from the past 6 months so it was time I get one and it fixed my storage problem. I definitely recommend it and it is great to store pictures or whatever as a backup for content you haven’t published yet.
Pocket Wifi Hotspot
This is quite an essential and probably one of the most important. If the coffee shop or the place you are at doesn’t have wifi then this solves all problems. I have one with a postpaid plan that has 30GB of data so it lasts me and I pay 999php a month for it. It is so worth it and I use it to upload my Youtube videos as it is super fast and is super quick. I just turn it on, wait for it to acquire a signal and that’s it. It has my own wifi name and password and I just hook it up to the device I’m using and I have Internet to do whatever on whatever device. As you can see my pocket wifi is from Smart but this isn’t sponsored or I’m not getting paid to post about it or anything. I genuinely use it myself and it is one of the essentials I use for blogging on the go so of course I had to include it. It’s really handy and I’ve been putting it to good use at home, when I’m at the mall and even when I’m traveling. I recommend getting one if you don’t already own one.
iPhone
I take my phone with me everywhere. I mean who doesn’t leave the house without their phone nowadays. I’m one of those people who can’t live without their phones so naturally I use it to blog with on the go too. I have lists and notes on it and use it for social media to promote my blog and all that. It’s pretty standard and most people do the same I’m sure. Also I have a data plan and if I forgot my pocket wifi I can just hotspot off my phone. I have some pretty good apps that help me out too. Let me know if you want to see a blogging app recommendation list.
iPad
Even though I have a laptop and my phone I still can’t seem to live without my iPad. It’s just a backup just in case. Honestly I use it to watch Youtube and Netflix on and have to have some background noise. When I’m out though I don’t necessarily always use it but have it.
Bluetooth Wireless Headphones
I love that this is so ironic saying this but I can’t live without my wireless headphones and the day I go out and shoot for this blog post I forget them at home on charge. Well they are really good and mine are really pretty since they are a pink and rose gold and are so comfy. Having a set of headphones is essential especially if I want to edit a video while I’m out. I like editing with headphones on even when I’m at home as it makes me focus more. I still have my white iPhone headphones if I need them but ever since using wireless I can’t seem to go back to wire ones.
Notebook & Pen
The classic notebook and pen so I can write down what I need/want to do. It holds written to do lists, ideas and just random thoughts and doodles. I’ve had this planner for a few years now and it is still going strong and doing me well. I still have a lot of my lists and ideas on my phone and tend to grab for that more as it is more accessible and always in my hand but I do go back to the classic way and write things down. Sometimes it even gets me more motivated by reading my own handwriting. I have a hot pink crystal pen that I love using as well and take with me everywhere in my bag. As you can see I do love my hot pink and have a lot of my stuff match. I love having a signature color everything to be the same.
So this year I’d like to blog on the go more often and just get out. I used to have a desktop and a laptop that was broken so that meant I could only blog from home. Now I have a laptop that I can take anywhere and have a few times so there is no excuse to leave the house every once in a while. I think I am going to do that. It will be good for me and maybe give me some inspiration like it did for this particular blog post.
Since I’ve tested it out a few times I think I came up with a good system. It’s what I traveled with when I went to Baguio as well and I could get all my work done and managed to do Blogmas and Vlogmas in December with all this stuff.
Those are the tools I use to blog with at home and on the go! As I said before I told you my last outfit here would have a part two. I had to shoot an outfit and then I just turned it into an impromptu photo shoot when I took my cousin to Starbucks with me. I love how they turned out and again I used Lightroom to edit this particular set of photos. I am so in love with it and going to find some more presets to try out. I’m currently staying at my cousin’s so I’m still technically on the go. I love that I have been more out and about instead of just sitting in my room at home. So I hope you enjoyed taking a peak into what I use to blog with and if you have any questions on anything that I forgot to mention or curious about just let me know and I will answer it.

What are your current tools you blog with?

I also do everything at home and I'd love to go out and do stuff on the go but I feel too self-conscious. I feel like everybody is gonna be looking at me and seeing what I'm doing and find it weird…Marta – http://www.aroundcolours.com
Thanks and it is so nice getting out. Don't feel self- conscious because a lot of people in my experience are too focused on their work they don't really pay attention unless you get one curious looker. Hope you try it as it isn't that bad.xo Jackie
Oooh I never considered a pocket wifi hotspot but it makes so much sense. Thanks for all the tips!xoxoAnnie
Thanks Annie! Glad you liked it and a pocket wifi is so good for these sort of things.xo Jackie
All the things you mentioned are must haves for blogging when travelling. I recently switched to a desktop because it is easy to keep it turned on 24/7 but I cannot imagine getting rid of the laptop for moveable option. Great post!
Thanks Sahrish! Glad you liked the post and I know what you mean with the desktop. I still have mine and use it once in a while but I agree a laptop is great for being moveable.xo Jackie
YES! It amazing all the things you need for blogging. People do not realize that more than just writing your thoughts! Even going to an appointment can be stressful when you have a post that is due ๐
Thanks Deanna! Glad you liked and agree with everything. I know what you mean and there is so much ore that meets the eye with blogging.xo Jackie
Next to my laptop, my notepad and pen are my next important pieces to have as a blogger. Calendars are a must have.
Thanks Serena! I never thought of a portable calendar as I use my laptop and phone but I may consider getting a mini one to help plan content. Thanks for the suggestion!xo Jackie
