Denim Dress
Happy Tuesday! Today I thought I would switch up my what I wore post and give it a twist. I wanted to incorporate more how to style posts as I do have a certificate in fashion styling and wanted to do more of it since I haven’t done anything like that lately. So I’m going to show you how I styled a denim dress for the summer and what to wear with it.
At first I wasn’t sure if I should buy this dress as it is something I don’t normally go for but I needed a dress and this was the only one that I liked. I would have searched for more but the mall was closing and there was a small selection. I kind of liked that as it made me reach for something out of my comfort zone with fashion. This dress ticks three summer fashion trends which were off the shoulder, ruffles and denim. That right there made me rethink it and I knew it would fun to see me style it. I went with my exact size as that was the best fit on me. I tried one size up and one size down but my normal size fit perfectly. The dress hits me perfectly and I wasn’t sure if the shape would look good on my body top but it looks better on then on the hanger. I tried a similar dress like this and it didn’t flatter my curves but this one follows my shape and is figure flattering. Even though it is denim it is soft and doesn’t rub. It is structured and even though it is off the shoulder it doesn’t move up or down when you lift your arms. It’s the most comfortable off the shoulder style I have and I can move around without it moving. The elastic keeps it in place and makes it very secure while wearing it. It has little white diamonds as the print so it isn’t a plain denim. The material wrinkles easy so it is a bit hard to sit in and restraightnen so be careful with that. I wasn’t so sure with this dress but after wearing it the whole day it is quite a nice throw on summer dress that you don’t have to fuss over.
I kept it simple. I wanted the dress to be the main focus as it is a statement piece. I could have added more but I just added a white tote that has been my go to bag lately. It’s very spacious and for my vacation I used it as a beach bag. I like that there is a lot of ways to use it and it goes with so many outfits. To match the bag handles I paired it with tan wedges for a more dressed up look. For jewelry I went with diamond bow studs. They are so dainty and sweet plus they look like Hello Kitty bows. The necklace I had since I was a kid and I just change out the pendent every once in a while. Since this had some brown details I went with a stone heart charm. Lastly my lipstick was from Ofra in Americano and the browney orange went so well with the outfit. Also my cousin braided my hair and managed to copy the look I wanted to recreate from Pinterest. I liked that the braid added something to the overall outfit.

There are so many similar dresses nowadays and so many different styles to choose from to dress your own body shape and so many different types of denim to flatter any skin tone too. If you don’t want to go out and spend a lot on dresses for woman and to follow the trends then there are so many sites like FashionMia that have similar looking ones at a fraction of the price plus that means you can pick up a lot more things to go with the outfit and style it to your preference.
A few tips on how to style this dress would be to keep it simple if you are unsure how to wear a full denim dress. Also since the dress is made of denim material than try not to overwhelm yourself with adding any more denim unless you’re really sure it will go together. I kept it really basic but added my girly touch here and there though. Since the weather wasn’t too good that day I would have maybe paired a jacket with it. I think the final piece I would add is a satin bomber jacket to dress it down and add a pair of white sneakers. Another trend that could have been added was womens outerwear. I’m getting excited that I could wear light cardigans and bomber jackets again with the weather cooling down. So that it one way to transform this summer dress to get more use out of it and wear it again.
That was what I wore and how I styled it. This was so hard to shoot as the first time I went out to take these pictures it was raining and we had to cut it short. We stumbled upon this bridge while looking for locations for the outfit and when we saw the bridge it went perfect with the color of the dress. We had to go back the next day as the weather was not our friend. It wasn’t the clearest the next day but when you need to shoot you find a way. Actually in the beginning of trying to take these it was starting to drizzle and we fought through it. It actually ended up clearing up and then the sun came out but then it got too hot and a bit too bright. I hate when the weather can’t make up its mind. Over on Twitter I’ve been complaining about how bipolar the weather has been and it is so hard to shoot outfits. When it’s like this I end up missing summer and the bright sun everyday. I don’t miss the heat though. At least I finally managed to take the pictures for this outfit. It was a journey to get these but I’m happy with how they turned out. I hope you liked how I styled this denim dress and how to wear it if it is summer for you. Let me know how you would wear it yourself as I’d love to know. Have a great Tuesday lovelies!
