Neapolitan Ice Cream
Happy Friday! Welcome to another beauty review. I’ve been enjoying this cute little palette quite recently and it is perfect. It is so handy and great for the makeup I’ve been trying lately. It’s definitely very spring and just a nice palette to work with. It’s my first time using a palette like this that has everything you need to add color, contour and highlight and since I’ve been doing some practice and trying to master my contour I have found this palette perfect for that and probably great as a beginning palette. It’s travel friendly, perfect for beginners and affordable so here are my thoughts on the BYS Contour Trio in Sweet.
| BYS Contour Trio in Sweets // 449php – $9.70 |
Description from website (here): Get a natural look with this trio. This contour trio features 3 pans of different natural shades, one for your cheek, one for highlights and one for contouring. For a fun addition to your cosmetics collection, grab a BYS Contour Trio (Sweet) now.
It is a trio because it has a blush, highlighter and bronzing powder in one palette. It is everything you need in a palette and perfect travel buddy and to add a pop of color in your makeup routine. BYS Contour Trio was included in my first Glamourbox BYS Edition that you can see that unboxing here when it first came out about a few months back now. Also I’ve been seeing them around a lot when I’m out in town so check them out in all Watsons and SM Department Stores nationwide. It retails at 449php/8g which is a pretty good deal for 3 products essentially.
And on the card this came with said that this won Cosmopolitan Magazine’s 2015 Beauty Award? That’s pretty amazing and I see why it won!
Packaging
BYS Contour Trio is handy and compact with its sleek design. It has a clear cover so you can see the shades without the need to open it up. So without any additional baggage this is a travel friendly palette that is lightweight and even though it is plastic it doesn’t feel cheap. It can be so easy to pop in the makeup bag without taking too much space and of course it just perfect you get a three in one which if you are like me and have a growing collection of everyday makeup that takes up so much space in your makeup bag then this is a space saver and lifesaver all in one. It does have a downside though and that is it has no built-in mirror and
applicator inside. That makes the application difficult if you
are used to having a mirror inside like me who is too lazy
to carry around a mirror. It’s also hard because you need to hold
a mirror up and the palette at the same time as well. If you are a
person who does their makeup on the go like inside a moving car (like
me sometimes) than it takes the extra effort having a mirror-less
palette. It’s either one or another to see the product from the lid or
have a mirror so it just depends on your preference. Also there is no
brush or any kind of applicator inside. That could be a good or bad
thing because I personally don’t use them anyways and use my own.
Now the back side. I love how products are so informative and this palette has just enough info. On to the one side it shows a diagram of a face to show where on the face which product goes. I like when brands do this and give a guide on how to use it and it can be perfect for beginners so they aren’t overwhelmed by it. Aside from that, on the left side it indicates the ingredients, manufacturer, product bar code and expiry date.
Color
This has three different colors and are separated into their own pan. First off starting with the blush has a bit shimmers in it and is a lovely peachy pink color. I usually go for a pink blush for a natural flush but I actually appreciate this and I think this will be lovely for summer with its shade. The highlighter is matte and has no shimmer in it. It is a milky white highlighter and something I haven’t tried either because the highlighters I started off with have shimmer and a tint of gold or champagne so it was fun to try blending it and seeing it being more noticeable. The highlighter is so easy to work with and looks natural on my skin. Lastly the contour powder is matte as well. The color is quite brown that reminds me of hot chocolate color but on my skin tone it can be quite orangey. I think when I am a little more tanner I think it would be the perfect shade and bring some color and give me a bronze glow too. If I’m in the mood for a bit of warming up to my complexion then this does a pretty nice job. The contour shade is warm toned so sine I prefer these on my skin it is a natural contour shade for me to get that striking contour. I read somewhere that the blush has somehow is a dupe of Nars Orgasm. I don’t own it so I can’t be sure. Also that the bronzer is close to Nars Laguna so I cant prove it either but if it is close to the two then this will be such a nice substitute.
Pigmentation
The first thing I noticed was just how much powder you pick up when you put your brush into the pans. I’m very careful to always tap off the excess before I get going because these shades are pigmented. I love the fact that it’s very pigmented thus a little product goes a long way and for sure it will take time to hit the pan. You only need the smallest amount to see a difference with each of the colors. However, the powder is a bit chalky which I’m not surprised with because I had the same impression with other BYS products like their brow powder
and eyeshadow palettes that I have tried.
It did stay intact the whole day even though that I have
oily skin. I didn’t have to retouch and the powder still was in place where I applied it.
Application
I can make them work if I’m very light with my application and spend a
lot of time with blending it out to how I want it to look. They are all easy to apply and blendable. It took me only few minutes to achieved the desired looks I wanted which I love it was that simple. I apply a
subtly bit on my cheekbone with an angled blush brush for the blush. And
above that I use a fan brush to dust on the highlight but I’m still
scared to over highlight and look like a sparkly mess. For my contoured
shade I also use an angled brush to get that perfect line across my
jawline too. I use a fluffy brush to dust the contour shade all around
too for that bronzey beach glow. I might not be really great at applying
all of it yet but it is a great palette to practice with.
Swatches
With the pigmentation you can see how opaque they could be. They are quite soft to the touch and is a bit chalky but not too bad that you get super annoyed with it. The blush color is a tad bit orangey on swatches but with some sun it is a gorgeous. Also the contour and highlight is matte and super blendable which is especially perfect for me because I need it to be or it would be very bad and so obvious I don’t know how. They are all super nice and have nice color and pigmentation which is amazing for its price.
Overall Experience
I really like this product and would definitely recommend. It is a great beginner palette but it can be for makeup lovers too. It has nice color and pigmentation and is extremely good at blending since the shades are soft and silky to the touch. I’d love to pick up the other variant to this as well because this one was so good and has become my go to contour trio that I have been grabbing for. I’ve been using this for a month now and is now a staple in my makeup kit. The
shade looks natural on me and this is a great start for someone with a
budget who would love to try blush, highlighter and bronzer in one
palette.
Have you tried this BYS Contour Trio yet?
My rating is: ♥♥♥♥♡
This is a 4 and a half rating for me. I like it and its a great product. The only downside is the messiness when you sweep your brush onto the product because of the chalkiness. Other than that it is an amazing palette and worth the money because you get 3 in 1, a travel friendly palette and it is so adorable and easy to access.
Pros
- Great pigmentation
- Nice color payoff
- Travel friendly
- 3 in 1 palette
- Affordable
- Blendable
- Long lasting
Cons
- No built-in mirror or applicator
- Tad bit chalky
That is it for my review on this and hope you liked it as much as I enjoyed writing about my go to favorite product at the moment. I managed to take a whole bunch of blog photos in a batch a few days ago because the lightning was perfect and it wasn’t too hot out. I got so much done and edited all of them in a row for hopefully the whole month. My camera is being a little better to me lately but I’m still waiting for the service center to contact me to fully fix the camera which is hopefully soon. I might be going away for the weekend up north to visit my cousin and nephew so I plan to shoot a few outfits and do a lot of snapchat vlogging so follow me on there -> jackiefairytale for that. I must get packing now but hope you liked this review and let me know what your fave trio is and what brand you have. I’m going to go pack this in my travel makeup kit now!
