Maybelline Color Sensational Pink Alert Lipstick in POW1 & POW2 | Review & Swatches

Pink To Make The Boys Wink

Happy Wednesday! Well yet again another lipstick review. I told you I became obsessed and ended up picking up these two pink lipsticks for one outfit I had in mind and needed colors like this. I actually don’t own a hot pink lipstick which I know is shocking but it is true so there I go off to the department store and ended up buying not one but two more lip choices to add to my ever growing collection. Since I knew February was all about pink and red of course my lipsticks had to match and last one you saw was my first Valentine’s lip choice which was the BYS Matte Lipstick in Celebrity Status which you can see that review here in case you missed it. The second lip color was this one and it was a hot pink to also match my nails which again my last Mani Monday here. Right now as I am writing this I have not bought any lipsticks (so far) and I think am controlling myself but you never know since out of all the makeup items lippies are my weakness. I do have maybe one more lipstick review coming out but I might space it out and wait a few weeks or so but you have that to look forward to if you just love me showing you my new lip color additions. I think that was a long enough intro and quite an explanation for my lipstick addiction so let me just start telling you my thoughts on two of the Maybelline Pink Alert Lipsticks.

Product Description:
• Amp up your lips in the hottest pink.
• In 4 bright pink shades
• Passionate Pink color only from our vivid color pigments
• Creamier feel only from our nourishing honey nectar

Pink Alert is a sub range of bright pink shades in their Color
Sensational range of lipsticks. All the shades in this range are very
eye catching pink!

If I was to describe the shades a little better,
I would say that the Maybelline Pink Alert Lipsticks are very Barbie like and I love that. It is very feminine and for a girly girl like me it is my favorite color range to own.

Let’s start with POW 1. It is a bright blue based bubblegum pink. It is a slight blue based pink shade and is a fluorescent pastel pink shade. I am quite attracted to shades like this and it kind of reminds me of a darker version of this lipstick I reviewed here. I love bubblegum colors and they are really fun to wear. POW1 best suits fair skin tones and cool undertones I feel but it is worth a try. Next is POW 2. It is a beautifully bright hot pink lip color. This is the kind of color I was looking for too. It is a gorgeous hot pink shade with a slight neon undertone and also a bright fuchsia pink with a slightly reddish undertone. It’s extremely pretty and has a warmness to it making it suitable for all skin tones.

While searching swatches of this while in store I found it has a few dupes. Some have compared POW1 to MAC Candy Yum Yum but a lighter version and also I saw it’s a pretty close dupe of MAC’s St. Germain. I don’t know for sure since I don’t own any of those shades but maybe it does or does not have the same color, formula and texture wise or maybe it is completely different or quite a good dupe. As for POW2 it is similar to MAC Impassioned lipstick or it has a brighter counterpart of
Color Sensational in Fifth Ave. Fuchsia which while I was deciding at the counter looked very close for me. Right now this is my perfect hot pink shade. For me this was love at first sight and a must have shade if you are a bold lovers.

I think one of the best qualities I have found from the Maybelline Pink Alert Lipsticks is their beautiful texture they have. They are extremely buttery and instantly hydrate the lips on application. It does not settle into fine lines at all and gives you a nice glossy finish hence making the lips look fuller and juicier! I’ve been trying matte lipsticks a lot lately and they have been drying my lips out so this is a nice change and I do like having the nice creamy finish too. Maybelline POW 2 does transfer a little due to the creamy texture and that is the a con if you can’t handle that.

The Pink Alert lipsticks are extremely pigmented and you get an opaque finish 1-2 swipes. Just from the swatches you’ll see below they have such lovely application on my wrist but even more so on my lips where it was intended for of course. It instantly brightens up the lips and you’ll be left with gorgeous color. The staying power for being a creamy lipstick I was not expecting to much or for it to last long on my lips but it did and it it prove me wrong. The last Maybelline lipstick it didn’t have the best power but this actually lasted. It easily stays put for about 5 hours and survives and doesn’t dry my lips out! Even after it leaves a strong pink stain hence you do not require an immediate touch up. I included a swatch below that shows off what it looks like on the lips and I think it still looks quite pretty and has this pink tint that makes your lips look naturally pink.

The Maybelline Pink Alert Lipsticks come in a pretty pink lipstick packaging with a plastic wrapping with “Pink Alert” printed on the wrap and on the other side it has the date & ingredients. The packaging is the same like the color sensational ones which I own a few of as well. It comes with pink cap with closes tightly so the won’t come off in your bag which a few lipsticks of mine have done that which doesn’t make me happy to find. The packaging inside which is the bullet is silver in color and twists up to reveal the lipstick. It goes all the way in so it doesn’t expose the lipstick and it is a good thing for me because sometimes if I am not careful then I can snap the product and waste it so I like that it goes all the way down inside the tube. It has a color coded sticker below along with the shade name to ease identification. I like that it is also pink sticker at the bottom on which the shade name is written and the sticker is the same color of the lipstick inside. I really like the pink packaging and find it girly and attractive also classy, sturdy & travel friendly too. If you haven’t notice they are so pretty and can add to my backgrounds in blog pictures too.

Here are the swatches on my wrist. The one on the top is POW 01 and is a lighter more purple pink shade and the bottom one is POW 02 which is a more vibrant hot pink hue and much more opaque. These were just one swipe but it is already quite pigmented so with extra swipes it creates beautiful and bold colors. The finish is so pretty and has great color pay off.

L-R: POW 01 & POW 02

The one to the left is PW 01 and it is the lighter shade of the two. It is what I call a barbie pink and I love those kinds of shades. I do have something kind of similar which is the Etude House PK09 lipstick I have a review on here which is similar and has that blue and somewhat purple tone undertone like this one. The second and the one on the right is a hot pink and very vibrant shade. They dry quite nicely but has some transfer from the creaminess so that can be bad for some.

This is the shade after the whole day and it faded quite nicely and sort of had an ombre effect that I see is a pretty trend lately but I can’t seem to recreate it on purpose. As you can see the vibrant pink is replaced by a subtle pink and dries nicely as I mentioned and I like this pink tint which some may like or some might not.

Overall Experience

I enjoyed this and fell in love with how pretty the colors are. They are very moisturizing, have nice color pigmentation, have amazing packaging and have affordable price. It has everything I look for in a lipstick. The only fault I have with it is that since it is very creamy it can transfer so I have to remove the excess and make sure it doesn’t smear all over everything. Other than that I love it and it was totally worth trying.  This range scores well in texture, pigmentation, staying power and affordability and I only found one thing wrong with it so pretty good in my standards. It gets a thumbs up from me and I’m sure you won’t regret this purchase either.

My rating is:

  • Gorgeous pink shade and attention grabbing
  • Has creamy and buttery texture
  • Moisturizes the lips
  • Doesn’t settle into fine lines
  • Has a glossy finish giving a fuller appearance
  • It is highly pigmented
  • Has an opaque finish
  • Great staying power
  • Affordable price

  • Due to the creamy texture it transfers a bit

That as another lipstick review for you. I quite liked these so I hope if you get the chance to try this if you ever stumble upon it. I’m glad I picked these up when  was in need of hot pink lipstick. I think I am going to pick up the last 2 shades in this range to try them out and see if I like those as well so let me know if you want a review of that as well. I was going to stop myself in buying more but when I discovered there was 2 more then I wanted to get my hands on it especially POW4 as the colors seems perfect this summer. Let me know if you tried this and what is your perfect pink lipstick.

What are your thoughts on bold pink shades?

I really like pink lipsticks, they are so fresh looking. I will have to see if they are available here in Australia (sometimes it takes us a while to get the same products as overseas) :)
