Maybelline Colorshow Lipstick in 305 Nude Mocha – Review & Swatches
Happy Wednesday! If you read my July Favorites post which if you missed you an still read here I raved about my first nude color. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t do a review on it as it is my first nude lipstick and it’s a lipstick review and you know I love my rambles about lipsticks. A big thank you to Kim from Kimpossibly Gorgeous who sent these lipsticks to me after I won her giveaway. This is going to be a series as I couldn’t fit all five of the Colorshow lipsticks I have into one massive post so I am splitting it up into three and will be up every Wednesday just like this one. So enough of that babble and let me get into the ramble of this one.
Heat-proof colored lipsticks in the season’s trendiest shades. Get runway-ready lips with brilliant lipsticks straight from the backstage runways of New York Fashion Week.
The packaging is really nice and as surprising as it is I don’t have many lipsticks that have a black tube. I know it really is something weird but I think I only have maybe two in a black tube which is a Revlon and my MAC. So it’s nice having that shiny black tube because for me it’s quite rare to see and I’m sure not tired of it yet. I like that in the middle it has the short of shade it is and can be distinguished a little without looking at it from the bottom label. It might get a little confusing since I do have two reds and two purples so I do have to look on that but this one I can distinguish right away. I would describe the middle plastic bit being a orange or almost rose gold color and it is quite pretty if I may say so. I’m really liking that and it doesn’t feel like cheap plastic which I know some that I have tried are however this one is pretty good so thumbs up for the packaging for me.
Okay, let me talk about the color. When I first read this shade and it said Nude Mocha I was expecting a brow type f color. I mean come on look at that name and nude and mocha for me mean brown. I wasn’t expecting it to be like a very brown color don’t get me wrong but I’ve seen other nude lipsticks and the have a hint of brown. This was red. I swear to you when I first opened it I thought I opened a red shade but I looked down at the label and it wasn’t. I then researched that they don’t have to be brown and can have a sort of other color tint to them and now everything makes sense. I think this was supposed to be a your lips but better shade and I think I get it now. I do like it don’t get me wrong but I was really expecting brown here. Maybe next time I do have to try a true nude shade that actually looks brown to really sway me in a nude lippie. Please tell me I’m not alone and you thought they same thing when you got your first nude lip so I don’t look as dumb over here.
The swatches for this as you can see it is quite opaque and can be quite buildable as well. I like when lipsticks don’t take much effort to build up and you can get enough color in one go especially when you re in a rush or in my case when you don’t quite have a handy mirror around when you’re retouching. The finish is lovely and I like how moisturizing it is. After a meal I like how it turns almost matte and the shine it once has fades. I don’t know I do like the shine and you can see in the swatches how nice it is but I like it half matte and half not if that makes sense and after a few hours wear I get just how I like it.
Overall Experience
This is a great lipstick and I’m starting to fall for this color. It’s pretty long lasting and is just so moisturizing on the lips. I love the texture and finish this lipstick
formula has in it. Also it doesn’t transfer and it lasted me quite a while after eating and drinking. It is the best your lip but better shade which I hear a lot about and I was in need of a lipstick like that and glad I found something close. The packaging is nice the price is fairly good for a drugstore lipstick and it has a lot of color options. This is also a first Maybelline lipstick I have tried in a while and I’m quite impressed with everything and the quality they have. So for me it was an overall great experience to use.
My rating is: ♥♥♥♥♡
I gave this a four for me because I don’t know it doesn’t seem like a five. I don’t know what it is or maybe I am just still bitter and angry over it not being a brown since it said it was a nude mocha color. I mean that’s not it but I wouldn’t say I would really wear this everyday and I know I’ll reach for it sometimes but being an everyday one that I grab for I don’t think so. The moisturizing and finish is great and I’m really happy with all that. It’s still a great lippie and if I do ever run out of this I can go back for it.
That was my first nude lipstick review. I really enjoyed reviewing a non pink one for once and going out of my comfort zone and trying all sorts of colored lips haven’t I? A really great one and I hope you found my review interesting and worth checking out the Maybelline Colorshow lipsticks. Again, I’d like to thank Kim for sending them over to me and letting me get a chance to try these. Her blog is amazing and I’d love for you to check it out if you don’t already follow her. So let me know if you liked this and what your initial thoughts were about nude lipsticks because I’d love to know and reassure myself I wasn’t the only crazy one. Hope to see you back here again next Wednesday for part II of showing you the Colorshow lipsticks!
What was the first nude lipstick you’ve ever tried?

Now I am not usually a nudey lip color kinda gal, but that color is so pretty. Just the photo of the lipstick is making me want it. Maybe if you use a mauvey brown liner underneath you can customize how brown you want it? Great post!thesixthdisneyprincess.blogspot.com
